Spark Children’s Festival Lighting by Simon “Fuzzy” Broadbridge
The Baby Rave completed
2006’s Spark Children’s Festival. Never before been seen in England, it
introduced babies and toddlers to their first clubbing experience. Complete
with DJ and dancers to interact with the children, the emphasis was on music
and dance and I needed to create a suitable backdrop. I hung saris and
slinkies, which were pulled and danced with. There was a textural garden with
trees and a carpeted “patio” area. Inspired by children’s play-mats, I made
large flowers which sat on the floor, each petal a different texture. Gold
mirror panels were on the wall which the children gazed into. Watching the
children interact with all the elements was the most rewarding and interesting
aspect of the project for me and the whole day was a great success.
