The set I designed for
Animal Farm was on a revolve. One side was the barnyard with Mr. Jones’ house
on the second level. When the set revolved it revealed the windmill. Huge
windmill sails flew in upstage and creaked as they slowly turned. The windmill
was built up with blocks, which were then exploded out onto the stage. The
beautiful backdrop (painted by Toni Bysouth) was a view of the peak district.
Sand-coloured stones covered the floor. The animal heads were constructed
predominantly out of wire mesh.
