Speakeasy
Theatre Company – schools tour

This
play was developed for Derbyshire County Council to inform and inspire young
people to think about environmental issues. As far as possible we wanted the
set to come from recycled items and 95% of the set was taken from a Derbyshire
council tip. I selected the items then constructed the set, creating an
environment for the different locations in the play – an apartment, street,
underground tunnel and evil superstore. I then added some strengthening
elements and made the elements tourable before painting everything to create a
cohesive environment – using paint left over from a previous show. Apart from
enabling us to stick to a very tight budget this was a very useful exercise and
has informed my work since.
